How Does a Refrigerator Work?

To ensure you get the most use possible out of this important appliance it can be nice to understand how a refrigerator keeps food and drinks cold—and Ericson Appliance Repair is here to help.

Read below to learn all you need to know about how a refrigerator runs, how it cools your food and drinks and if it’s the right time to hire refrigerator repair.

Parts of a Refrigerator

You will not find too many homes that do not have a refrigerator inside the kitchen. It has been a must-own appliance for a lot of years. A residential refrigerator can store your food and drinks at the best temperature, in order to reduce spoilage and stop harmful bacteria. The process of refrigeration works by moving the warmth from inside of the unit to the outside, relying on principles of condensation and evaporation.

The primary components of a refrigerator are below. For questions or service call Ericson Appliance Repair:

Compressor

A compressor is both a pump and a motor, and it’s responsible for circulation of refrigerant throughout the system.
A compressor is an important part of a refrigerator. You should call a professional company if the compressor is not working.

Condenser

The refrigerator condenser is attached on the back outside wall of the appliance and is there to disperse the heat collected from inside the refrigerator then out in the surrounding air.

Evaporator

The evaporator is housed on the interior of the refrigerator where it absorbs warmth contained within it, effectively reducing the temperature inside the appliance.

The moment an evaporator isn’t working, it is time to find a professional. You should not wait until it’s too late.

Expansion Device

Liquified refrigerant is transported within a capillary tube that works as an expansion device as it cools the gas inside, thereby turning the gas into liquid.

Thermostat

A refrigerator thermostat regulates the current temperature within a refrigerator, engaging a new cooling period as required.

A thermostat in a refrigerator is often prone to malfunction. Troubleshoot and call a repairman in CITY for repair the moment a problem happens.

How Does Refrigeration Work?

1. The moment the temperature within the refrigerator goes higher than the set point sensors notify the refrigerator compressor to engage, and then the cool down begins. The unit draws in the cool liquid refrigerant, pressurizes and condenses the liquid, and increases the temperature, so it can turn into a gas.

2. The refrigerator compressor pushes the heated gas towards the refrigerator condenser coils on the exterior of the appliance, at which point it comes into contact with the lower temperature in the room and returns to a liquified state.

3. The cooled refrigerant continues on its journey towards the evaporator, finding its way through the coils in the inside of the refrigerator and freezer.

4. The coolant absorbs the heated air from within the appliance, lowering the temperature back to the correct final point.

5. The coolant then will evaporate, and turns back into a gas, and returns to the compressor unit in order to continue the cycle.

Refrigeration technology is often used in a lot of applications and large appliances, including heat pumps, AC units, refrigerators and residential freezers. By removing heat from a single location and then relocating it to somewhere else the cycle of refrigeration aids in cooling your house, provides a perfect storage space for perishable food, and helps with the manufacturing and storage of many different products and goods.
